Harris Broadcast Introduces Low-Power VHF Transmitter Series For Global Standards

Harris Broadcast will introduce its Platinum™ VAX Compact Class range of VHF transmitters at the 2013 NAB Show (Las Vegas Convention Center, April 8-11, Booth N2503), adapting the company's compact, power-efficient transmission philosophy to low-power VHF applications for ATSC and worldwide terrestrial standards.

The Platinum VAX Compact Class series is the latest addition to the company's transmitter portfolio, ensuring a solution for virtually any VHF analog or digital power requirements. The new series is most suited for low-power transmitting stations and gap filler applications, and is especially useful for covering specific regions in extended markets or difficult terrains.

Saudi Broadcasting Corporation Continues Migration to DVB-T2 Digital TV

Harris Broadcast has secured a new DVB-T2 transmission order from Saudi Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) as the country continues its transition to a national network of digital transmitters and satellite services. The latest phase of the ongoing SBC modernization program will add transmitters to sites in Aded and Yabren, bringing the total number of Harris Broadcast-supported DVB-T2 transmission sites to nine.

Harris Broadcast will supply compact, energy-saving Maxiva™ ULX (3.4kW) and Maxiva UAX (2kW) UHF transmitters in cooperation with Saudi Arabian dealer and systems integrator First Gulf Company (FGC). Both models feature the Harris Broadcast PowerSmart® architecture for the broadcast industry's highest power density and operational efficiency for over-the-air transmission; and incorporate the Apex M2X™ multimedia exciter to ensure best in class performance, reliability and signal quality.

Harris Broadcast Features Radio Broadcast Efficiency at 2013 NAB Show

Harris Broadcast comes to Las Vegas next month to showcase technologies for improved market coverage, cleaner over-the-air sound and integrated studio architectures, with new product enhancements and its first MaxxCasting demonstration for large audiences.

MaxxCasting was introduced last month as a joint solution with Geo-Broadcast Solutions to maximize audience reach, allowing broadcasters to fully utilize their FCC spectrum allotments. The MaxxCasting architecture employs corresponding transmission and control technologies to increase signal coverage via efficient, single-frequency networks — often more effectively than traditional booster technologies.

Harris Broadcast First to Market for New ATSC Standards

Harris Broadcast is now shipping the broadcast industry's first comprehensive solution compliant to the new ATSC standards for transmitter synchronization, ensuring that broadcasters have an all-in-one terrestrial and mobile platform to improve over-the-air signal coverage and maximize viewing audiences.

The ATSC A/110: 2011 specification provides the standards-based solution for ATSC broadcasters to enable single-frequency networks. This allows broadcasters to synchronize over-the-air content across mobile DTV systems and distributed transmission networks that use multiple low-power transmitters within a broadcast market.

Harris Corporation Completes Sale of Broadcast Communications Business to The Gores Group

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has completed the previously announced sale of its Broadcast Communications business to an affiliate of The Gores Group, LLC for $225 million. The price includes $160 million in cash, a $15 million subordinated promissory note and an earnout of up to $50 million based on future performance. The purchase price is subject to customary adjustments.

"This is an exciting new chapter for Harris Broadcast, our employees and our customers," said Harris Morris, CEO of Harris Broadcast. "The Gores Group is an ideal fit to help us move the business forward and help drive innovation, streamline operations and improve customer service. They will also provide us additional resources such as a flexible capital base and introduce new talent to the Company."
