GatesAir Exciter Trade-In Program Boosts TV Transmitter Performance

Trade-in initiative makes the industry-leading, software-defined Maxiva M2X™ exciter available to global broadcasters for more than 50 percent off
Cincinnati, OH, February 04, 2016

GatesAir, a global leader in wireless, over-the-air content delivery solutions for radio and TV broadcasters, is following its successful Flexiva™ Power Up Program — which offered radio broadcasters an exciter upgrade in previous-generation transmitters — with a similar upgrade program for its global base of TV customers.

Called the Maxiva M2X™-CHANGE Program, owners of older generation TV transmitters — both GatesAir and other suppliers’ models — can transition to the software-defined M2X with a simple in-the-field exciter swap in less than one day. Specific to the GatesAir exciter portfolio, the program is ideal for CD-1, CD-1A and Apex exciters, many of which remain active in the field due to the longevity of GatesAir DTV transmitters.

Supporting analog TV and all worldwide DTV standards, the M2X exciter was the industry’s first DTV exciter to enable field-upgradable digital transitions — and upgrades to emerging digital standards, such as migrating from DVB-T to DVB-T2 — without significant labor and reconfiguration. The M2X also integrates GatesAir’s award-winning RTAC™ real-time adaptive correction software for continuous transmitter performance monitoring, and constantly updates internal correction algorithms to maximize signal quality.

“The Maxiva M2X exciter upgrade is a simple, smart investment to improve signal performance and lower operating costs based on its exceptional spectral performance, energy efficiency and optional IP connectivity,” said Rich Redmond, chief product officer, GatesAir. “In many cases, transitioning to the M2X will also increase the robustness of your digital signal, enabling broadcasters to improve coverage and reach more viewers.”

The Maxiva M2X-CHANGE program reduces the cost of a new M2X exciter from $23,000 to $10,500 — a more than 50 percent savings. The complete package includes the exciter, an installation kit with cables and mounting hardware, and a video installation guide.
